Feeding Tube Awareness Week® 2016

The theme for 2016 was "The POWER of Tube Feeding." This year we focused on how feeding tubes can provide children and adults with the power to live and thrive, especially in terms of energy, nutritional status, development, and growth. Topics included Awareness, Energy, Nutrition, Development, Support, and Education.

The 6th annual Feeding Tube Awareness Week® was celebrated worldwide February 7-13, 2016!

Feeding Tube Awareness Week® celebrates how nutritional support helps people to grow, develop, and thrive. It encourages clinicians, caregivers, parents, and tube feeders alike to embrace tube feeding as a path to improved health and development, when there is a medical need.
Sunday, February 7th:
Awareness: The Power of Tube Feeding
Share information about why you or your child is tube fed. There are hundreds of medical conditions that can lead to tube feeding – most of which you can’t see.

Monday, February 8th:

Energy: The Power of Tube Feeding
Post your story or pictures of you or your child thriving with energy as a result of tube feeding. Or, post before and after pictures to show how much tube feeding has improved you or your child's energy.

Tuesday, February 9th:
Nutrition: The Power of Tube Feeding
There are long-term consequences to malnutrition. For some people, there wouldn’t be life without tube feeding, but for others they would continually struggle with malnutrition. Tube feeding makes it possible for people who aren’t able to eat enough on their own to get the nutrition they need.

Wednesday, February 10th:

Development: The Power of Tube Feeding
What has tube feeding meant for you or your child? How have they grown, developed, thrived? What are they able to do because they are powered by tube feeding?

Thursday, February 11th:
Support: The Power of Tube Feeding
It can be a challenge when family members or friends do not understand why you or your child needs a feeding tube. However, many family members do a great job of supporting their loved one. Encourage your family to learn about tube feeding, lend their support, and share their story.

Friday, February 12th:
Education: The Power of Tube Feeding
Make a plan to educate 5 friends, family members, or media sources about tube feeding.

Saturday, February 13th:
Tubie Love!
Share pictures of you or your child in Tubie Love gear or promoting Feeding Tube Awareness.
